Signs You May Need Drain Cleaning

Drain Cleaning

Sewer Pipe Cleaning Technology out the drains isn’t a pleasant job but we all have to do it every so often, if only to prevent a more extensive clean up from being required at a later date. But how do you know if it’s time for your drains to be thoroughly cleaned? These signs should give you a good idea about what to look for.

Slow Drains

If your drains are draining slowly (the bathtub generally provides solid proof of a slow drain) then it is probably clogged. This type of clogging is due to the accumulation of hair and soap. The kitchen sink is also liable to slow drainage if greases and other fats are poured down the sink, because they will then solidify inside the pipes. It’s advised not to put objects or substances down the drains that could become solid once inside, as clogging is a near certainty.

Bad Smells

A quite obvious indicator, if unpleasant smells are beginning to emerge from your drains it’s probably high time that they were cleaned. These smells can become potent as a result of clogging due to the build up of debris, which forces all the pungent gases inside the sewer line replacement  back up the pipes and into your home. Such smells could be because of rotting food, a build up of hair or even due to a rodent getting stuck.

Strange Sounds

If you are hearing strange sounds from your drains when water is flowing down them, the chances are that the drain is clogged. You can tell this because the sounds are created as a result of oxygen bubbling up. It’s important to address this problem as quickly as possible as it will not go away on its own, and will be a more serious issue in the long run, when the pipe inevitably becomes totally clogged.

Toilets Overflowing

If you’re toilet is overflowing regularly, this could be indicative of a blocked drain. Regularly putting tissue paper and other small objects down the toilet will increase chances of a blockage because of the additional debris in the pipes. If the blockage cannot be removed with the toilet plunger, then it is likely that there is a more serious clogging further down the pipe.

Backed Up Water

One of the clearest signals that you need a drain cleaning is backed up water pumping itself back up the drains and into your sinks and bathtubs. This is either a symptom of serious clogging or worse, evidence that your drainage system is breaking down. Addressing this issue with a clean is important as water being pumped back up the drains is potentially hazardous.

No Clear Signs

Just because there are no clear signs that you need your drains cleaned doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do it anyway. As these indicators have proven, clogged drains are an unpleasant situation. Instead of waiting for problems to arise, take control of the situation and schedule regular drain cleans – perhaps annually or bi-annually – as this will prevent steeper costs later down the line.
